We all love sweet and delicious desserts. But the sad reality is that desserts that are rich in sugar, carbohydrates, refined products and fats are not good for our body. However, that doesn’t mean that we should stop eating desserts altogether. There are many ways of making a healthy dessert. Let’s find out how you can make your desserts healthy.

1. Use right sources of fats:

Fat is an essential source of energy and an important ingredient of any dessert.But too much of fat is not good for your health. Also, most people consume wrong types of fats and that is the main cause of concern. For instance,hydrogenated fats and saturated fats found in baked products and ice creams can raise the level of bad cholesterol in your blood. Therefore, you need to use the right sources of fats to make sure your dessert is healthy.

Fat found in soy, tofu, peanuts, almonds and cashew nuts contains good cholesterol, so you can use them in your desserts. Even if you are using right sources of fat, it would be wise to use them moderately. This is because fats contain a lot of calories, which may make your dessert unhealthy.

2. Use dark chocolate

Chocolate is one of the most essential elements of desserts. Chocolate can not only provide you with energy but also elevate your mood and relax your vessels. It is advisable that you use richly flavored dark chocolate in your desserts. Dark chocolate isn’t very sweet and adds good flavor to any dessert. Try to avoid milk chocolate, vanilla chocolate or cocoa chocolate because they contain harmful hydrogenated oils.

3. Do not use refined products

Eating regular meals that are full of processed foods can result in undernourishment and weight gain. This happens because processed foods are often processed to an extent that they lose their nutritional value. Refined foods are only rich in fats and calories. So, avoid using highly processed foods in your dessert. Replace refined white flour with whole grain mixes. Similarly, avoid white sugar and use alternative sweeteners in your desserts.

4. Use natural sweeteners

Instead of using a large quantity of refined sugars, you can go for natural sweeteners to add to the taste of your dessert. Refined sugars can increase blood sugar levels instantly that may lead to weight gain. Refined products like white sugar, corn syrup, processed honey and processed maple syrup. Rather than using refined sweeteners in your desserts, you can go for natural sweeteners like brown sugar or pure honey.

Also, do not use artificial sweeteners in your dessert. Artificial sweeteners contain Aspartame which has been linked to diseases like Alzheimer. Another good source of sweetness in dessert is fruits. Sugar present in fruits is a complex form of sugar that does not raise the blood sugar instantly. Moreover, fruits also contain anti-oxidants that are good for your health and nourishment.
